Tsagan Sar!

Tsagan sar, literally white moon or the lunar new year, is one of two large traditional celebrations in Mongolia. Below are pictures from Bituun, eve of tsagan sar, with my old host family. It is said that if one eats enough during Tsagan Sar he will avoid hunger in the coming year. I am certainly going to try my best.

Playing a game with shagai, sheep ankle bones

Pollution is atrocious in the city and with all the cooking and heating of gers during the holidays, it only gets worse

Last Pics from the Gobi

Below is my attempt at "decking the halls" complete with Santa, Christmas tree, reindeer, and a manger scene which I then tried to explain in my broken Mongolian... much confusion.
